The Rolex Milgauss is a fascinating watch in that it was originally produced to serve a very specific (an scientific) purpose. The Rolex Milgauss was made to be resistant to magnetic fields. Due to the fact that watch movements are made of metal, they tend to be highly susceptible to magnetic fields. For scientists who work with strong magnetic fields, this poses a bit of a problem: how can I wear a quality timepiece when I work without ruining it?
